It’s #FiveMinuteFriday free write time! <—click to tweet this!
Where a flash mob of folks spend five minutes all writing on the same topic and then share ’em over here.
Want to know how Five Minute Friday got started and how to participate? All the details are here. And every week I’ll pick a post that caught my eye and share it down there in my side bar – see where it says “Featured Five Minute Friday”? Yea -that could be you!
Because, as we all know, the most important rule of Five Minute Friday is leaving an encouraging comment for the person who linked up before you. So getting to feature one of your fine posts is like frosting as far as I’m concerned.
So, set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes of free writing without worrying about getting it right.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
OK, are you ready? Please give me your best five minutes on:::
Beyond…
:
GO
Beyond the air conditioner’s hum, beyond the dog barking, beyond the dark sky there is a sun rising in the south. Beyond this zip code and this faded yellow comforter there are people who remember me with bangs. Beyond the torn out bathroom sink and the stacks of tiles. Beyond the carpets and the truck parked out in our neighbor’s yard. Beyond the squishy pillows and the squirrels in the back yard. Beyond the raggedy, green grass and the broken shovel. Beyond the dried roses and the baby girl’s new white bedroom walls. Beyond the stains and the suits and the high heels and the flip flops. Beyond the lists. Beyond the moment. Beyond the right now. There is a then. There is a them. And they are mine. And I will follow the southern cross home beyond the milky way and under the Baobab tree to that deck porch our front of a thatched roofed white house and I will be home.
STOP
OK, show me what you got! {Subscribers, you can just click here to come over and play along}
Such tender words about home. I feel the nostolgia for a place where you set roots down years ago, when you had bangs and no children at your feet…. beautiful words Lisa-Jo. Feels a little like longing to me….
PS: thanks for sharing my post this week on your sidebar. Seriously, it was quite a gift. XXOO
PPS: You so deserved it!
I love it when you write about South Africa! I really can’t say why, I just do. It touches a special place in my heart.
#Homesick
This is beautiful. I read as if you were reading it to us — with your lovely voice, slowly, so full of passion and your beautiful accent. I’m pretty sure that’s how it will always be from now on :)
You always seems to turn out the perfect post with every prompt! I always wobble with my words and sometimes wonder if i even get my point across – ha! ;)
Such a lovely post. Today is my first time joining in, love this.
Beautiful words. Beyond . . . there’s so much behind and ahead in all that we do. Thanks for all you do to encourage us.
There is so much “beyond” isn’t there? We just need eyes and hearts to see it!
How you long for them while you’re in this moment, it’s really honoring to speak about. To pause and connect with what you miss, rather than ignore those feelings, it’s worship.
Beautiful. You make Friday mornings fun. I had to make a run to Wally World. Who could enjoy Blog Hopping without coffee? :o)
It’s brewing. Now, it’s time to read the many voices echoing this morning about their beyond…
Thanks again for the invite and this post. Take care.
Second time reading it was better than the first…reading it a third time will undo me for sure. I feel the ache, Lisa-Jo. And want to go there with you…
Oh how words can cause an ache in a heart. And yours do here. Of longing and dreaming, musing of a different place and time. You took me there through the lines of your post, to that deep place of family and home. What beauty here today. Thank you…… this is loveliness
Sometimes I am not sure where I call home … just being with my family. What a precious post full of strong emotions… Simply loving and so heart felt. Have a blessed day :)
Such beautiful language and such clear, precise poetic expression. Loved reading your entry today & sincerely enjoyed writing my own.
Blessings to you….
I am so inspired by these Five Minute Friday prompts! Brilliant!
I have nominated your blog for a Very Inspiring Blogger award.

Goosebumps, Lisa-Jo. Such a lovely piece with such rich words and pictures painted.
BEYOND
Beyond right here and right now. There is more.
Beyond what I think I know to be right or true, black and white, there is more.
More that I don’t know. More that I have not experienced, pehaps not now, perhaps never.
I am reminded of a word of encouragement read yesterday, “Setbacks are not failure. A setback is just that, nothing more.”
So, beyond my desire to figure out why I do what I do, why I may find myself so easily enticed by old, destructive behaviours, and even beyond my ability to follow through with that which often has brought only pain, there is a God bigger and greater and higher and his love is over and under and inbetween.
Beyond – I think of Narnia or a sunset at the furthest point I can see, on the horizon just dipping below the waters edge.
And God is there too.
Lisa-Jo,
You enrich my life with words of freedom.
Thank you for sharing you.
Love,
Nancy
It is so hard when family and home are so far. Thank goodness a part of them are always with us. Xo
Ochen kracivie slovo. Mnie nravitsa. Spacibo ;-)
So I am new to your lovely blog… and totally just linked up the wrong post to your 5 minute friday! Embarassing, right? Didn’t see a way to delete it, but please do! It’s entry #183. Eeek… so sorry!!!
I love this prompt and your beautiful words of home. Ex-pat life has it’s advantages, but you’re never quite yourself until you have the soil of home under your feet.
beautiful
discovered this through another blogger; may have to try it!
“there is a then. there is a them. and they are mine.” beautiful, lisa-jo. truly.
