Featured Five Minute Friday:

And every week I’ll pick a post that caught my eye and share it down there in my side bar – see where it says “Featured Five Minute Friday”? Yea -that could be you! Hop on over and visit some folk who make fireworks in just five minutes. They inspire me.

I’ve been kind of quiet over here this week. But I’m gearing up for a full 31 days of writing.

My friend, the Nester hosts a series every October where crazy fools all write every day for an entire month. Last year over 700 people participated.

It’s like back to school for blogs.

I’ve always been too chicken to join. But this year I’m jumping in. Starting Monday I’ll be sharing  31 Days to Write Your Story. I’ll be talking about how you actually are a writer. Yes. You. You are.

Now, set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes of free writing without worrying about getting it right.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Oh and Ahem, if you would take pity and turn off comment verification, it would make leaving some love on your post that much easier for folks!

OK, are you ready? Please give us your best five minutes on:::

Grasp…

GO

There is the temptation to grab you and hide you in a closet, a bubble and time machine – children of mine. You wear my DNA so well. My blue eyes. My temper. I’m tempted to lock you away from the world where nothing can get broken and no one can disillusion you about life.

But I hold both hands palms up. Empty. I let go of your yellow Bafana Bafana TShirt and slowly fold the angry birds underoos. I will not grasp hard at who you are out of fear. I will not wall you off. I will not build bubbles around you.

Son I will walk into the dark with you. I will hold the torch. We will walk these rope bridges together.

You will teach me what brave looks like through seven-year-old eyes and I will not hold your hand too tight. I will kneel down so I can see into your eyes and read there everything I didn’t realize you were already learning. How this faith has muscles and you are learning to exercise them. Brave in those Star Wars shoes of yours.

You have the only force you will ever need.

Playgrounds are more dangerous than all that shiny metal and rope might let on.

But you run toward it. You always run. I won’t hold you back. I won’t hide. I won’t try to hold you back. I will run right behind you until we are both flying.
