This is for the hurt women. The wish-they-had-sisters women. The why-wasn’t-I-invited women. This is for the girlfriends and heart friends and long distance friends and miss-my-friends friends. This is for the women who love long afternoons catching up and slow Saturdays on the sofa splitting the last brownie, the first story, the hard memory. When last did you get together with girlfriends?

Last night the only thing that stood between me and the desire to lock my children in their bedroom indefinitely was a heaping bowl of chocolate ice cream with sprinkles AND chocolate sauce. The kind that gets hard and crackly when you put it on the ice cream. Last year I spent most of the weekend of April 27th crying. When I wasn’t crying I was grinning ear to ear. It was our first ever attempt to gather women and (in)courage readers from across the globe together in real life. Nearly 2,000 sisters in Christ showed up and it flat out took our breath away. {That’s me on the right with my friend Christy who helped host our meetup}. For six months last year and then part of the beginning of this year I was in pursuit of the biggest God dream I’d ever been a part of. I alternated between joy and wanting to throw up on a daily basis. It was a dream to connect readers of (in)courage in real life. Women encouraging women is one of my favorite things. Sisters caring, showing up with soup, watching the kids, folding the laundry, sharing the recipes, picking the kids up, shuttling to baseball practice, holding the hard times with both hands and a full heart, celebrating through the beauty of extraordinary days, spreading their five minutes of writing so that it ends up rippling far and wide with encouragement.
