How to make your wife feel beautiful

I told him not to buy me anything for Valentine’s this year. Just to write me a love letter. He liked the idea but his schedule was uncooperative. That was a month ago. This morning I stumble into the bathroom pre-contact lenses and peer at an envelope that seems to have found it’s way onto the shelf next to the sink. My head is fuzzy from nearly five days of him being driven by the deadlines of work and me keep reading…

I’ve been a mom now for six and a half years. There was a while there that I didn’t think I was going to make it. I was tired, run down and couldn’t figure out why it seemed so easy for everyone else. I was certain I was failing motherhood any time my first born failed to nurse, sleep or poop on “baby book” schedule. Six years later and I’ve thrown most of those books away. Sometimes Valentine’s comes in March

Give me a man who’s there at midnight when the mercury pushes over 100. Give me a man who isn’t afraid of croup and will sit in the bathroom for long steamy shifts with the shivering, hacking boy as they both breathe in the healing steam of the shower.
