“And Max the king of all wild things was lonely
and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.”
~Where the Wild Things Are
I have four brothers.
And two sons.
Boys are different.
They love in unique ways that come in shades of super hero and bright, tight wrestling matches. It’s the sheer physicality of raising boys that has taken my breath away.
Nothing is done half way. Everything is exuberant. Taste, Feel, Smell, See, Touch! Boys ride the senses something wild and wonderful, leaving chaos in their wake. Chaos and puddles and piles of dirty laundry.
Wrangling them and raising them into men of integrity – it’s hard, muddy work. And some days it’s counter-intuitive.

Keep reading with me over at the M.O.B. society? There are three of my all time, hands down, favorite parenting books up for grabs! Race you to the comments section…..
great job friend – I LOVE THIS BOOK! It really openend my eyes and my heart to how my son behaves – and what he needs from me his mom! I especially love how it’ll grow with you as it breaks it down by age! Not a one time read!!
All boys are different, but so similar in some things – “yes, that’s normal” gave me much relief that they were just boys! (no brain damage in utero)!
Love being a mom to boys!!
Stef
Thank you! And yes, this book is the holy grail of parenting boys as far as I’m concerned – I LOVE it!!
What a wonderful new ministry – M.O.B. As a grandmother who prays every day for grandchildren and their future spouses, your ministry is part of the way God is answering my prayers! Bless you!
Thank you, that’s wonderful to hear!!
My heart always patters when I read something about boys:
mother of 4 ( plus the last is a daughter) and I have 6 brothers!
Everything is true that you have said! I’ve loved growing with them as 3 of them are in their 20’s and the oldest is married.
Homeschooling them always had lots of outdoor time!
They will rise up and bless you!
Oh indeed – boys are a rip roaring delight!! Hope you enjoy visiting the MOB site – bet you can share some great wisdom with us!
I’m not a mother, or a mother of boys, but I always love what you write! I’m praying for your launch. :)
You are the best!! And in my opinion – much of what applies to little boys applies to big ones too:) Physical touch seems to be a man’s primary love language from infancy on!
So strange, I have three boys and a girl, every description you have of boys apply *more* to my girl. She’s the roughest and dirtiest of the lot!
As always, I love everything you write.
I guess there must be an exception to every rule! ;)
