Here!! I love coming here for a dose of inspiration : )
I’m not technically a lurker, since I just found your site today. (Thanks to Muthering Heights!) But I am really looking forward to reading more of your writing and exploring your wonderful site! May God bless you today and every day!
I confess, I am a lurker and this de-lurking has made me see the error of my ways :)
Thanks for taking time from your family to encourage us, share with us and challenge us. I especially love your posts about your travels. I live in a cross-cultural setting and am always interested to learn how others see the world. Abundant blessings.
Yes, I lurk. Why? Because I like your writing and enjoy the pictures.
I don’t often (once, maybe?) comment, but do enjoy your grace-filled, honest reflections on motherhood. I am married to a wonderful man and we have four small and busy children. We live in central Oklahoma. Thank you for sharing your time and heart to encourage others!
Hi! I’m from Mississippi. I found you first on twitter through Jen Murray (quatroMama) and then started reading the blog. I’ve been very encouraged especially by your posts about mothering. I’m a first time mom with an 11 month old and it’s good to know someone else out there feels the same way I do sometimes-good and bad! You are a very gifted writer. Thanks for sharing with us.
MB
I’m not sure if I’m a lurker as I pretty much participate in FMF every week, but having never introduced myself…I guess I’m a lurker. I’m from the southern US and have loved every minute of reading your blog. I especially love FMF and appreciate you hosting it! blessings on your weekend!
I’m Pam from Michigan. Following you quietly and drawn to your confidence and joy, humor and words. Keep it up, friend.
My second born arrived to us on a snowy night in Owosso, MI – we will always love Michigan!!
Good morning from frosty NH. :-)
Hmm…I’m probably not officially a lurker…more of a sporatic commenter. :) Love what you have to say. More often than not, it brings tears to my eyes, makes me refocus on what is really important and remember that I’m not the only one that lives far away from what is familiar.
xx
Discovered your blog during a Compassion Blogger trip and became a faithful reader after “Lame Sponsors of the World, Unite!” That was such an awesome post and it sparked my passion for helping sponsors with their letter writing ministries to their sponsored children.
Thanks for sharing your thougts with all of us!
First time “lurker” I will be back!
Hi there! Long time reader, first time commenter :) Born in Minnesota, raised in So. Cal and recently moved to East Texas. Mother of two under two and also a family photographer. I sometimes think you are inside my head with your writings on Motherhood. I laugh and cry with you often!
First time commenter? Oh that’s special – howdy Amanda and thanks for saying hi!!
I am here, and I read everything although I don’t comment very often! I am also from SA, my husband was British (I am a widow) and I live in the UK but am writing this from the Alps, in Switzerland, where my sister lives. My daughter lives in NZ. We are all nomads!
Love hearing from other Gypsies!
I so completely love lurking at your page….so I’m coming out of hiding!! Thank you for your obedience and for your transparency that makes you willing to put down your words so that we all might be blessed and grow a bit ( or a lot) day by day. God bless you cyber friend!!
Hello! I love your writing and often come to it after a bad day to calm my nerves. It usually involves a good cry too. :) Im a stay at home mom of 3, ages 4, 2, and 1, and my husband works crazy hours at work. We are a single car family so I spend many days at home with them on my own. It can be very isolating, but I can come here and always enjoy a good read. Thank you for that. :)
Hi Ingrid – we’ve been a single car family all last year, so I really, truly hear you. Glad we can share those days together!
I discovered your blog through a Compassion Blogger trip and have been hooked. I am a lurker because I shouldn’t be able to relate to your blog, but I do. Although I am not a mother of young children (my miracles have left the nest), I am the caregiver for my 97 year old mother and I find that I can relate to much of what you write. The elderly are much like children and I find myself drawing on the same reserves of patience, love and stamina that raising my girls required. In my case I don’t get rewards of smiles, hugs, and adorable antics that make you smile when your day’s labors are complete from caring for a small child so reading your blog charges my grateful battery as you focus on the little things. A thankless job doesn’t mean I don’t have things to be thankful for. Your blog helps me find the beauty in all things. Thank you.
Hi Darlene – and what wonderful insights and I’m so glad we can journey together reminding ourselves that every task that no one else sees the Father surely doesn’t miss.
Hi,just want to say thanks for being so real and honest… I homeschool my 5 sweet babies, ages 12 years old to 8 months. I am learning more and more about God’s grace and patience as I raise them and wish more women would let their guards down about what really goes on in their lives instead of trying to project an image of perfection that ends up isolating us from each other. I am so appreciative of your heartfelt writing and usually let loose with a few tears. I journal everyday and hope one day to have the chance do a better job at getting it onto my blog! Keep putting your heart out there-it is truly beautiful!
Well, I’m a semi-lurker since I rarely comment. I’m an Iowan living in Texas, staying home with 3 kids, a 3.5yo boy, a 1.5yo boy, and a 2 mo baby girl. I most enjoy your reminders to be present and think about how they are changing me.
Greetings from Canyon, TX!
I was recently directed to your blog from a link posted by Ann Voskamp. As a senior in high school in the panhandle of Texas, I have not yet tasted the joys and pains of marriage, motherhood, or mission work; nonetheless, your writings continue to serve as an encouragement to me. I greatly appreciate your vulnerable honesty as you beautifully express the revelations of your heart and mind. Thank you for being faithful to the word of God and His calling on your life and for using your passions and giftings for His glory! By no means do I intend to sound cliche, though it seems almost unavoidable, but your life is truly inspiring!
Hi there Janae – I love knowing there are women reading from all ages and stages – and if you have a chance, I highly recommend the blog of my college aged friend, Hilary, who explores a lot of what it still means to be single and just starting out – she writes wise, fun, encouraging words!
http://sittinthereoncapitolhil.blogspot.com/
You have a wonderfully “lurkable” place ;-)
I enjoy your writing. You always give me something to think about and more often than not, you have me in tears over something profound!
Your posts are down to earth but the sky is the limit … what’s not to like?
Pax!
Oh I love that description – I always hope this old blog will feel like a comfy sofa one can sink into in front of a fire place with a cup of hot chocolate and good girl friends. Thanks Eva!
New reader (only a week or two), and if experience holds true, a lurker… I’m a Mom with older kids (17, 22) who has enjoyed reading your perspective. I loved the recent post about the sweet drive in the rented mini-van. I look forward to more posts.
I’m thinking about starting a blog (okay, I’ve been thinking about it for two years…), and my goal is to start one by Easter. Truthfully, I’m overwhelmed and fearful. Working on that! Praying about that! In the meantime, I read some blogs and I write.
Just do my friend – we all have a story to tell and you never know who needs your words.
Good morning! I REALLY enjoy your blog! I blog at Bones in My Heart! We homeschool on our little farm in Indiana. My first joys are Jesus, my husband & our 8 daughters, all adoption blessings! Our firstborn we adopted privately, then we became a foster family and have adopted seven more, so far. Thanks for inviting us to lurk and give a shout out! GOD BLESS YOU!~Melissa
I’ve been lurking here for several months. Never commented because I felt like I never had the words to quite explain just how lovely and beautiful I think your writing is. You inspire me to be a better mother and to see the beauty even in the frustrating moments. I have four children and the last few months I’ve been in burnout mode, but I can always come here and you seem to put it all in perspective with your writing.
Thank you so much. You have NO idea how much this blog inspires me.
Thank you Julie – I know what that mode feels like – glad we can share it and encourage one another!
I guess I am a lurker! Never fit that category before :) I love to read your posts. You have an almost lyrical way of expressing when you find the sacred in life, and I love to find someone like me. Someone that seems to be on a forever scavenger hunt for God, regardless of wounds or disappointments. Thanks for creating a community for women, for writers, for mothers, for Christians. You are a great model! May you be blessed.
I have commented a few times, usually when linking up to five minute Friday. I have a two and a half year old daughter and love reading your words. And though my words aren’t nearly as beautiful as yours I have a blog on thankfulness.
Have a great weekend!
Don’t think I’ve ever commented on your blog…. so I guess I’ve been a “lurker”. Since I’m single, I may not be like most of the people who read your blog. But I’ve enjoyed reading all your posts and there have been posts which have been an encouragement to me, so, “thank you!”
Smiles and a warm hug from Singapore!
Singapore? LOVE IT! Welcome Eunice – I’m so glad you feel welcome here – we need to hear from our younger sisters – those of us raising daughters. Your voices are so important!
Deb Weaver! Just do it! Go for it! :) I know how you feel. There are a few things on my list I also need to “just do it!”. Immediate, radical obedience! May God bless you! ~Melissa
Thanks!
Hi from snowy Michigan! I just love reading your blog. I love how transparent and real you are in your writing. Your writing is beautiful and so is your heart! I have enjoyed your “Five Minute Fridays” and have done a few. Thanks for the fun challenge! May God continue to use you through this thread! Thank you for your encouragement and for sharing your faith! :)
Oh Michigan – how my boys have missed you this winter, since we’ve had hardly any snow at all. Take a sled ride for us!
Greetings from a fellow gypsy! Currently, I’m typing away from Texas. Lisa-Jo, I think we have said our internet “hellos” via (in)courage posts, but Good Morning still! I must confess, I do not get to indulge in reading every day, but I get the emails and on the blessed days I can stop, breathe, and read – I find it a joy to communicate with other women, other travelers of this vast world.
It’s an honor and joy to expand “nice-to-meet-you”s, smiles, *hugs*…it feels a certain kind of blessing to see the scope of the Body and how we can bless one another in small are large ways. So hello, on this de-lurker day. What a joy!
Yes, getting glimpses into the scope of the body is a wonder, isn’t it?
I love getting your emails because your words give me something to think about during the day. I love uniting with the body of Christ.
God Bless you always!
Hello from a fellow blogger. I always love reading your posts!
Thanks for sharing the blessings with us!
All good things!
Hi there. I get your bog via email and I can’t honestly remember if I’ve ever commented or not, so I guess I’m delurking. :)
Howdy Kendra :)
Hi there! I think my last comment might have been the last delurking day! ;) My name is Marissa. I am married to an Anglican priest, and we live in the Seattle area. We have three little boys – 5 and under – and we have a lot of fun (and wild!) times. I am also a middle-grade fantasy author whose first book debuts this year – hooray! At any rate, thanks so much for sharing your reflections on faith and motherhood. You give me courage. Peace+
Oh an author – who also juggles three boys and a job – you are now my new official hero :)
I love your posts – they put so many of my feelings about life into words and inspire me. I haven’t commented because reading blogs is my guilty time away from my family and there is always laundry or a child calling me back. Thanks again for all you do!
Love your blog – Nancy from “Life Takes Over” is my niece and she connected with you through a ‘share’ I did on Facebook. Love your sense of humour and your uplifting posts.
I lurk because I’m a guy and most of your audience is female, but you’re still in my reader for a reason. =) Love your writing; keep up the great work.
Thanks Adrian – I’m always surprised by the guys who find anything here speaks to them :) It’s so estrogen heavy – but glad to know God uses our words in unexpected ways.
The unsang twangs of motherhood always attracts me. My three lovelies are teens and beyond now and I am a college-mom, working remotely to help them keep their inner compass well oriented. For that, I need inspiration and your blog is a steady source.
I’m new to your blog, but I already love it and enjoy every new post. You’re really pretty, and you’re smiley picture makes me happy! I also love the scrolling pictures of all the places you’ve been, which makes me wish for an hour at a Starbucks to chat with you about your adventurous life. I’m looking forward to getting to know you. I have the feeling God will help me become a better person just by knowing you, even if it’s just via blog world. May God bless every word you write and help you shine light in a dark world.
Thank you Christy, and welcome – I’d totally take you up on that hour at Starbucks :)
I bet this is so fun to read what everyone has to say! :) I have been reading your blog faithfully for awhile now—-and love it. I live in rural Alberta and am always so pleased when I see there is a new post from you.
Hi Lisa-Jo!
(I live in rural Alberta too! Hi Cheyenne!)
I am kind of a lurker too, but a faithful one. I did interview you a while back on my blog, which was such a lovely experience!
I love this invitation to de-lurk, and may just do the same on my own blog if you don’t mind.
Peace & love to you this lovely Saturday,
xo
Beth
Lovely Beth – of course I remember – because you were braver than me and took Nester’s 30 days challenge :)
I’m a chatty! Love begin here with you. I began with FMF and have been able to meet so many people. Thank you for the opportunity to post here and engage in new friendships. You have inspired my writing and given me a fun place to hang out!
~Di
Chatty makes me happy :)
Always happy to lurk around here! :)
I lurk – I think I have commented once though. Your words and rich and powerful. Thank you for sharing your life.
I receive your posts by email and follow you on Facebook. I love the way you write and the photos you take. Such authenticity and vulnerability are rare and touch the heart in such a deep way. I usually leave teary-eyed but better for it. I have done a few FMF’s as well . . . would like to be more consistent with that.
I love how you weave your words, how you write from your heart and how you are just as sweet, and friendly, and encouraging in real life as you are on these pages in this place. I look forward to every Thursday night about 9pm when your five minute Friday post magically appears in my Google reader, eager to join your beautiful community here. You have modeled to me what a writer is, and I’m learning to become a writer, in part thanks to you. Be encouraged and know you are appreciated and loved! What a delight it was to meet you at Relevant…many blessings to you!
I’ve commented once or twice, I think, but I decided to introduce myself. I am an American/German girl married to a Hungarian and living in Hungary. As gypsy mama who loves Jesus, I relate to so much of what you write, living and loving in (at least) two cultures. I find in your writing a kindred spirit soul. I so appreciate your honesty and desire to draw us close to the heart of God. Thanks for doing what you’re supposed to be doing!
I’ve visited Hungary once – Budapest is just gorgeous!
I lurk on a few blog pages but this is my first invitation to come out of hiding. I have lived internationally for more than 10 years and am married cross-culturally as well. Living a life overseas and being married to another culture has changed me, my worldview and who I know God to be- in good ways, in difficult ways. Most of my encouragement comes from the cyber world at this season in my life. That’s why I’m here. Thanks for sharing your journey so publicly.
Thanks for coming out of lurking and saying hi – love knowing there are all these other third culture commenters out there in the wings.
I’ve been reading for awhile, not good at commenting. But I’ve recently been joining in on the 5 minute Friday.
Have a great weekend.
I have commented a few times. I love your blog, your honesty and your very open heart. Hope you have a wonderful weekend with lots to tell us about next week! :)
I love your blog! I enjoy reading your posts about Motherhood… they always seem to be JUST what I need to get through my day as a SAHM, and you always help remind me of how precious a gift my children are, no matter my mood (or their behavior!) . I have a habit of sharing your posts on my FB wall, and many of my friends benefit from your words of wisdom and comfort as well. Thanks!!
Hello! I’m a Texan now living in Alabama. I haven’t been following for long, and I found you through a link on another blog (I don’t even remember which one) after reading their five minute Friday blog. I am a busy mom of three, and fellow blogger. I enjoy your sweet heartfelt posts. Thank you for taking the time to share how the Lord is working in your life!
I’m a stay-at-home mom married to my high school sweetheart for 25 years.
I have four children 10-20. We’re committed Christians. My husband serves as the director of operations for the Joplin Relief effort at Joplin Family Worship Center. Our lives have revolved around recovery efforts from the May 21 F5 tornado which ripped Joplin apart.
If you or any of your readers would like to help, they can go to http://jfwc.org
Hey Laura – blessings on you guys – that has to be some hard and emotional work.
I love your blog because I find it inspiring and comforting! You always find a way to put the joys and challenges of motherhood and life into the most beautiful words. I often myself teary-eyed (but smiling of course) when I finish your posts! I also enjoy reading the 5 min Friday contributions. I’ve thought about contributing but haven’t quite found the courage yet as I’m not great with words!
I am a stay at home mom to a 3yo daughter and a 2yo son and also a part-time college student. I live in Michigan but have lived out of state and overseas in the past.
Thank you for your wonderful blog.
Hey Melissa – there’s no grading of Five Minute Fridays so just jump on in and enjoy it!
You know…? If I had asked this on my blog, I would be lucky to get 3 responses. And here I am #54 on your comment list. I’m sure I’ve delurked before but…waving “hi!” from
http://www.airypersiflage.blogspot.com and from http://compassionkids.blogspot.com/
Howdy Bev! And I’m just as amazed as you! And I don’t take this beautiful, amazing, generous community for granted for a single second. I only wish I could have you all over in person for ice cream and brownies…….
I comment occasionally, but lurk far more often. I love your beautiful blog, your words, your stories and especially participating in Five Minute Friday.
Lisa-Jo,
I have commented maybe 3 times before but read your blog on a frequent basis.
I come here for your thoughts on motherhood – always honest, often convicting, and frequently funny. I come here for your writing – you have a way with words – you string them together like a vibrant garland. I come here for depth – superficial you are not and for that I am thanful.
Thank you for your words. Thank you for your honesty here in this space.
Sarah from Alabama
Thank you for that lovely encouragement Sarah – and Alabama? It’s on my list of places I’d love to visit some day.
De-lurking from WA state. :) Been reading and have finally got the courage to participate in Five Minute Friday. So enjoy your words!! Thank you.
Yay you! Five Minute Friday is so fun!
Hi,
I really love a lot of your blog. I love reading about your family; 5-minute Friday is a great idea, and some of the deeper posts inspire me too. “Be Careful Which Mirrors You Choose to Believe” was one that got me praying, so thanks very much for all your lovely writing.
I confess, I lurk! I love just basking in your beautiful, beautiful words!
I confess any time I see your blog name – Lucy the Valiant – it makes me smile out loud!
I confess, I lurk! I love just basking in your beautiful, beautiful words!
I don’t think I comment much, if at all. But I have shared multiple posts of yours on facebook, so that kinda counts, right? Thanks for your writing. I appreciate you!
Mary, momma to many
Counts big time :)
I stumbled upon your writings as a result of clicking through from another blog (which one, I don’t remember). I do enjoy reading your 5 minute friday’s yet I have not joined in doing the writing myself. You are an inspiration and I have visited and read several of your previous posts. Thank you for generously sharing snippets of you life with everyone lurking out there on the fringes of ye old blog. You are a gift!
Your blog is one of my favorites and I do think on occasion I have commented. Love your style and the way you are so real and encouraging. May God bless you in your new year as you minister to others with your words.
I’m from Washington and someday I hope to visit all the places you’ve been! This year we got to go to Baltimore/DC to visit my sister-in-law and she’s moving to South Africa this fall so maybe we’ll get to visit her there too… :)
I love everything you write even if I don’t comment. Sometimes it’s too deep to comment. At least for me. But I am so there.
Oh, and 5 minute friday has been awesome for helping me be a little more introspective on my own blog! :)
I’m not a lurker, but I am dropping in to say, “Hello!” and “Thank you for all you do!” YOU are, indeed, a blessing in my life! Thanks for the 5-Minute Friday opportunities, too! I love it! <3
I’m living in the San Antonio, Texas area. I love reading your writings. (I actually discovered this blog via (In)Courage.) You also challenge me occasionally with your 5 minute Fridays posts. Thank you for all that you do.
Love meeting gals that come over from (in)courage – my online home away from home.
Hey, I’m Stephanie, & I’m from Washington! I love reading your site because the things you write are inspirational and encourage me. Beyond that of a ‘traditional’ blog, you know? :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Howdy Stephanie!
Lisa-Jo.
I have been following you for a while now, and I always love your words and heart for motherhood, women, and above all, Jesus. ;) Five Minute Friday has changed the way I write, and I am so thankful for you for introducing me to the idea, and hosting it here. I am happy to have met you at Relevant 11 and look forward to seeing you again next October, Lord willing. Thanks for how you (in)courage and share your heart. Love ya!!
De-lurking to say thanks for your wonderful way of sharing words that are on your heart so they can touch ours!
Five Minute Friday is my favorite day of the week…
:)
I always read, and think I might have commented once or twice… but I always, always, always comment on the person that posted ahead of me! :) (A rule follower, you see!)
Thanks for the invitation.
<3 it!
And… I may secretly in my heart of hearts refer to you as the Social Media Ninja because one of my favorite blogging peeps (Lindseyfoj) calls you that… especially in reference to our #hashtag #problem. Or is it #hashtagproblem?
{grin}
Heh – that Lindsey cracks me up – #SheIsAwesome! And I LOVE me some fellow #HashTomFoolery ;)
And Yay you for always commenting on the FMF post before you! That makes me way way happy!
Hi. :)
I’m Everly.
Howdy Everly :)
Hello from the Silicon Valley. Although Al Gore invented the internet, much of it is improved and facilitated through the efforts of my friends and neighbors.
I’m 51, without children, and have never been married, so why would I read a Mommy Blog of all things? I discovered you through the Compassion blogging trip and liked what I read. I love to see the next generation of women seeking God, strengthening their marriages, and raising their kids in the fear and admonition of the Lord. It encourages me.
I enjoy hearing about your family’s adventures. It makes me laugh and it makes me tired. Since I owe my existence to my great-grandparents who made the difficult decision to leave their homeland (or be killed, so maybe the decision wasn’t as hard as it could have been) there is a part of me that takes pleasure in the fact that your kids are here because you made the same choice. God’s way of working to “beget” us fascinates me.
I like that you’re intelligent, talented, and interesting while at the same time being very real and happy to share your flaws an insecurities. We’d be friends if we lived near each other and I would give you great marriage and parenting advice because I’m super good at that. :)
By the way, I’m not sure you can just declare it to be National De-Lurker Day. Don’t you need Congressional approval for that kind of thing? But not to worry – my lips are sealed.
Howdy Diana – lovely to meet you. And it makes me happy to hear that women from all walks of life are comfortable here in my bloggy living room! :)
I have 3 adult children and I love reading about your Mommy life…it brings back memories of that busy but oh so wonderful time in my life.
A big howdy from Texas! As a new grandmother who is having a great time watching my daughter mother her new daughter, I love your posts about being a mother – how you just lose yourself in love over your kiddos. I pass along some of them to my girl. :) I enjoy your writings and your photos – please keep them coming! I enjoy the connection with other women since I’m home alone so much now that my kiddos are all grown. And I’m amazed at the wisdom from moms of young ones – I wish I would have had other mothers to walk alongside and help me when mine were little. May God bless you as you minister to others!
Howdy Kim – I wished I’d had that too. That’s partly why I started writing – because it just seemed that I wanted to go back in time and encourage myself when I was so down and tired and frustrated and lost as a first time mom.
I confess, I’m a lurker. Like Diane above, I am single, older and never married. We are both daughters of the king and so I enjoy reading your posts. I started following your blog through (in)courage. I love your words of wisdom, honesty and just plain fun takes on life. I work in Africa and have enjoyed reading about your life here and there in the States.
Oh give that Africa the warmest regards from me – how we miss that red dirt!
Peek-a-boo!!!!
From Texas and love to read what’s on your mind!
Hi, I’m from Traverse City, MI and love reading your blog. Always give me some food for thought and challenges that help me grow as a person. Thank you!
No way! My aunt has a cabin up there and it was one of our favorite vacations ever!!
My Aunt and Uncle have a cottage in Manistee on the channel of Lake Michigan and Portage Lake…Use to love visiting Michigan and spending a week up there. I live in California :)
Thanks for the invitation to de-lurk. It’s a cold day in Virginia, but the sun is shining and kids are swarming around like bees. Life is good.
Love the pin it button at the bottom of your post. Where did you find it?
Hey Cheryl – I know – freeezing here – actually a friend added the “pin it” button for me. But I believe you can just go to the pinterest page and they have all kinds of buttons one can grab.
I found the goodies on the site, but wasn’t sure if you added it to the post template, the footer or if you just add it each time. Oh, the joys of being a non-codie. :)
Hi Lisa-Jo, I came across your blog through another blog (Nester), and I’ve been coming back here ever since. My husband and I started our relationship long distance, so I’ve found a lot of your posts to be very inspiring. I’ve found that so many of your posts inspire me and remind me of the things that are easy to forget. Thanks for writing such a wonderful blog!
Howdy Susan, I love that Nester Girl – thanks for coming over to visit. Put your feet up and stay a while!
Hi:) My name is Holly Rognstad and I just recently found your blog through a friend on fb. I am overwhelmed by how encouraging everything is and how I now do not feel so alone as a new mother. I had a baby boy back in September and I work part-time as a violin and piano teacher for a private studio. Motherhood is way harder than I thought it would be but I still love it! Trying to juggle life can be lonely so I am so thankful for this amazing blog. Thank you thank you thank you for taking time to write. I look forward every day to your posts. God bless!!!!!!!!!
Howdy Holly, yup, I always say that motherhood is by far the hardest job I have ever had. Hang in there – I promise with each kid it actually gets easier :)
I rarely comment, but I am a faithful reader and often repost links to your blogs on my Facebook page. Thanks for being such a great spokesperson for all us out here in the world with diverse kids, cultures and chaos! I consider you to be a part of my community of friends who, through their writing, strip the stained glass distortions of perceived perfection off the windows of their lives and let others see inside clearly. Like you, I am a firm believer in “keeping it real” because when we show others our real selves, we give them the confidence to do the same. All that honesty means we can know we are accepted unconditionally, and truly pray for and encourage each other in spirit and in truth. Thanks for doing it so well!
I love to write, but don’t get much time for it, so reading your heart put into words is very energizing to me. I love being married to my best friend, and the four children that have been born out of our love. I find it challenging to juggle those two loves at times, because they kinda get in each other’s way, if you know what I mean. :-) I homeschool three of our children and we have a very open house with lots of guests so I cook a lot which fortunately is another thing I love. In a nutshell, I love my life. As crazy as it is sometimes, I’m getting to do so many of the things I dreamed of years ago, and getting to do it all as a team with the man I love is what really makes it great. I can relate to your overwhelming mother love, and to the overwhelming moments in motherhood that make us just wish for a break. Thanks for being honest about the whole package! My oldest is ten and I just love the kids getting bigger and becoming real friends to me. I think it’s getting easier…or maybe I’ve just gotten used to it? :-)
from texas…i’m always encouraged and comforted by your writing. thanks :)
Hi There… the title made me laugh – De Lurker. Brilliant.
I’m not a lurker… I usually try my hardest to write lots of comments on lots of ppls blogs as I would like the same done for me. I’ve just found your blog whilst blog hopping and I love the ‘Five Minute Friday’ idea so I’ve grabbed your button and added to my page to remind me to do it, and join in!
Lovely inspiration.
Pleased to find you.

I was just thinking this week that I wanted to write you an email to say “thank you” for your blog. My husband and I have been married 2 1/2 years and we don’t have any children yet. I have been struggling with even the idea of having my own children. I know that there is a sin issue in my heart with my own mom, which makes me not want to begin being one myself. Your post this week about your daughter made me cry (as most of yours do). I realized that even though my mom is hard to get along with, she does know me, and she does love me. You have been discipling me for the last few months about motherhood, giving me a new perspective, and a Biblical one at that. Thank you so much for your honesty and your encouragement.
Holly, that is so humbling to hear. I’m so glad the Holy Spirit could use these late night words of mine to encourage you. I struggled a long time myself with whether or not I ever wanted to have kids. Have you read this one from way back in the archives? http://thegypsymama.com/2009/12/because-once-upon-a-time-i-thought-i%E2%80%99d-rather-eat-glass-than-have-kids/
Am I a lurker if I read from my Reader and am often to ‘lazy’ to pop over? :D Oh, but I participate (somewhat) on Facebook… that counts for something… right? *shy wave*
Hi Ruth – heh – I get that kind of lazy :) and love that you popped over today. Howdy.
Hi. I look forward to each of your posts, even though I almost never comment. Thank you for your beautiful heart portrayed through your words.
Hi. My name is Olivia and I’m a lurker! Heehee! I’m growing into the wonderful life God has so graciously given me, which isn’t always pretty because it’s not exactly how I planned it to be – and I’m a little thick-headed! I’m from AZ, am in love with my husband of 18 years and we have two great kids. I love to decorate, read, write and run. Getting to a place where I can say that I am in love with my husband and discovering the things I love has been a journey! Finding the (in)courage community and your blog has been, well – encouraging! Thanks for pouring your words into all of us lurkers!
Oh I’m so glad you’ve found (in)courage as well – they’re the most wonderful safe encouraging place to spend time.
Hi! I’ve been reading for a while now, so blessed by your thoughts & insight on motherhood! I am momma to two-under-two and my husband is a 4th year medical student so this past year has been our “gypsy” year living in 9 different places in 12 months…it has been quite the adventure but we’re thankful we’ve been able to travel together. Thanks for the invitation to un-lurk!
Hello! I will admit, I have a huge problem with lurking. Not that I’m shady or anything; I usually don’t comment anywhere. This is something I will change, I’ll start being a more sociable blogger. :) Thanks for the motivation to start today!
I suppose I am a lurker…not quite yet brave enough for your 5 minute Fridays, but loving the words you share here each day. Peace to you…
Hi! I’m Jen Reeves.
I’m expecting next month, so I started reading your blog (through a recommendation) to get into a good mothering space.
Love your blog:)
Oh Jen – blessings on you – may it be the most wonderful of journeys! There’s nothing like it. Enjoy, savor, embrace the whole experience.
I don’t seem to have as much time these days to write as once upon a time I did. But then, that was when I was single, and now I’m a mom of soon to be three ages three and under. I read via email and rarely c- okay, so I’ve never commented before that I remember. Anyway, I enjoy reading. Thanks for writing!
Hi! I am a lurker … I visit many blogs but subscribe to few – and you’re one of them! I love all of your posts … you’re so insightful and really “get” me as a mom and a woman … I really enjoy getting your posts in my inbox. IN FACT … I have you listed on my blog as one of the blogs I love! (http://dmdehaven.wordpress.com/love/)
I only have done about 20 posts so far, but I’m trying to update more (isn’t that what all bloggers say?) … hopefully I will keep up with my frequency resolution.
Hi Lisa-Jo! I found your blog via (in)courage, and I recently subscribed via email. I don’t comment much, but I have participated in a couple of 5 Minute Friday posts.
I like reading your posts about being a mother and your reflections on life. Thanks for writing and for encouraging others.
Rachel
I lurk because your expression of joy is pure and infectious and love towards children is like a bridge uniting the beautiful hearts of mothers around the world.
Oh yes, Radha – it’s the strongest bridge isn’t it – connecting us right to our cores. Thanks for saying hi!
Technically, I’m a lurker since I don’t usually comment unless I have something Holy Spirit wants me to say. However, since I officially became a lurker on your blog while reading Ann Voskamp’s blog, I figured I would say ‘hi’ from Kansas City, MO. Blessings and Shalom to all my brothers and sisters in Messiah who read this blog. :D
I don’t comment very often, but this is my favorite blog. I’m a mama to a sweet boy with another on the way and we live in Tanzania.
Tanzania? Oh how I LOVE knowing that!
There. I’m officially unlurked. ;-)
Hi.
I’m definitely a lurker. I live in the Metro/DC area and always think I might run into you. Not that you wold know me but I find myself drawn to your blog and how you can write so beautifully about the day in day outs of being a mother. Thank you for putting yourself out there.
I’m a mother of three a 9 year old girl and a 6 & 4 year old boy.
Yvette
I hang around your blog all the time. :) Sometimes I comment (ok, most of the time I comment), sometimes I don’t. I just find that your posts so inspire me to connect and share. I love your blog. Thanks for writing.
I cannot remember if I’ve “de-lurked” or not…I’m Kimberly, in Arizona…and I love your writing. Thank you for your honest and gracious look at motherhood. I have two little boys, ages 2 and 4, and they are so busy! Therefore…I am busy in my attempt to keep up with them! I’m thankful for a wonderful husband who is a hands-on dad. Motherhood can be very overwhelming at times, and since we live far from our families (my husband and I are orginally from Montana and Kansas, respectively), we have no help. Your blog is very encouraging to me; thank you so much for sharing!
I love reading your blog because I can feel your heart in it. It is evident that you love your family and they mean everything to you. I can’t read your blog without having an “awww” moment or leaving misty-eyed. You’re a blessing.
Also, I love Five Minute Friday, though I have missed a few weeks along the way.
Keep up the great job!
Your sis in Christ,
Suz
I’m a faithful reader of yours, you’re an inspiration to me on a weekly basis! : ) Thank you!
I love that you post just often enough that there’s always something new to read but not so often that I can’t keep up reading your blog.
And I love that your posts speak right to where I am at as a mom, even though I’m younger than you are.
Quiet, silent type, not really a lurker. Fairly new here and can’t really remember how I found you. Maybe Amy? Tried FMF for the first time last week and was amazed at what came out! Haven’t had even a second to spare to do it this week. yet. Nice to meet you! Writing from New Brunswick, Canada. It’s cold here!
hey! i’m symphony — college student in D.C.
even though our lives are vastly different, it’s still awesome to read your journeys in life & where God is bringing you because one day … i’ll be walking in your shoes one way or another. LOVE what you’re doing. keep it up!!!
hello! i am a 30 something mother of two of whom i homeschool in san antonio, texas. i have been married for almost 17 years. i really enjoy reading other’s posts from like minded women from all over the world. love to read about your different travels. :-)
My husband and I, have been serving with New Tribes Mission, at their Bible Institute, in Wisconsin. We have three beautiful daughters, who are married and have given us 6 grandchildren ages 2-18. Lisa, I love your passion for life, family, the Lord and women. I’ve been through the trenches of motherhood. Stay true to the Lord and His truths and continue to lean on your “sister’s” for support. Thanks for blessing our hearts!
Lisa-Jo,
Thanks for the invite today. I am usually a quiet lurker and was thrilled to see your invitation to comment! I love your blog and am always blessed by your words. You make this mommy heart of mine feel more “normal” as you share the everyday nitty gritty of your life. I love your tender heart and your openness. God has truly given you a gift with words and we are the blessed recipients.
Blessings……
Patty
Not too much of a lurker but I love the idea of an un-lurking post. Come out, come out wherever you are! :) I’m a married mom of 3 who recently left full-time ministry as a houseparent in Texas to move back to be near our family in southern Oregon and now working at home in medical transcription. Learning now how to connect with spiritual purpose again and blogging about it all at WhimsySmitten.com.
I was blessed to get to meet you briefly at the Relevant conference and am excited to be virtually by your side to host our local version of {in}RL in April. Thanks for giving us all the weekly opportunity to break out of the shell of perfectionism and express ourselves creatively.
I’m Carolina and I can’t remember how I found your blog or (in)courage, but I’m glad I did. I’ve commented just a few times. I enjoy reading your blog and the pictures you post, but most especially the blogger prayer you shared a while back!
Hi there! I’m a Mom to two adorable kiddos and “married to the military.” Since we move so often, I feel like a gypsy mama, too! Your blog has given me so much inspiration, encouragement and affirmation. A few posts have even brought me to tears. You’re a very talented writer and I love the message you have to share! Thanks…and look forward to reading more!
I’m a lurker turned frequent commenter turned lurker. I barely have time to read blogs anymore, I barely have time to WRITE on my own blog! I recently pared down my google reader list from about 65 blogs to about 15. And yes, Lisa-Jo, you made the cut. :)
Looking forward to what this year brings…..
hello! i’m jamie and i live in the ann arbor, michigan, area! i lurk here because i love how you love your home country. i love your writing.
Hi, my name is Krysia and I live in Atlanta, GA. I have been so blessed by your blog and print them out many mornings to share with teachers at the Christian School where I teach. The pictures are precious and I love how you position statements and pictures…it is so unique! God has given you a gift and I am so glad you share it with others…thank you for being so real and easy to relate to! I look forward to each day you post and can’t wait to see what the year will bring!
Blessings and Thanks,
Krysia
Fun and creative idea.
Fondly,
Glenda
I confess … I am a lurker. I find it hard to comment on all that I read, yet hate it when others don’t leave comments on my blog. Hmm…there is a spiritual lesson there! :) Anyway…Hello and I love reading along each day and following on Twitter as well.
Hello! I’m a lurker, found you through either Ann Voskamp or Incourage, not sure where; but here’s to de-lurking! I love that you do five minute posts, and how encouraging you are with right where you’re at in God’s plan for you because of Jesus! I live in Tucson, AZ and am enjoying my first year of teaching Kindergarten at a big Christian church with a little Christian preschool and kindergarten. One of these days, my husband of two years and me will have kids of our own. maybe. :) I’m game for God’s plan for me! ANNNNd that’s my five minutes!
I found your blog for the 5-minute Friday write, but I’ve really enjoyed it! ALso, I’m trying really hard not to go eat brownies for dinner and blow my entire week’s work worth of eating right. Just so you know! Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi, Lisa-Jo. I am unsure if I’ve ever commented but I certainly lurk often! :) I am a mother of five, with three under the age of 4 (3 yr old and 2o month twins). I was a stay at home mom for a year and a half after the birth of the twins. We were also a one car family during that time! Many days, I relied heavily on your beautiful God- inspired posts to keep me encouraged. Your ability to weave your words of raw truth about the joys and trials of parenting (and everyday life) with God’s love is inspiring. You are such a tool of encouragement and you are having an impact on many women. Thanks for supporting and walking with us through this season!
Monica from Louisiana
Hi Lisa-Jo,
I’d probably be a semi-lurker, as I have commented in the past, but it’s been a really long time! I do link up on the Fridays that I write for 5 minutes, does that count? I love your blog and the real person you put out there for us to connect with. Thanks for keeping the mask off! I have two children and I’m alarmed to say they are almost 6 and 4 (why is 4 so much scarier than 3?). We are also a one car family, but thankfully, hubby carpools to work so I can still ferry the kids to school and get out some. We are viewed as strange by most folks because of our one car-ness, but I’m okay with that ;-)

Hey Lisa-Jo, I don’t feel like a lurker! But I’m a feed-reader and I don’t comment here very much but I feel like I’ve known you a while on ye ol’ twitter. I love your blog so much and want you to know I never miss a post! Your daughter is so precious and your boys are growing too fast! Put bricks on their heads!!
I think I have commented before and I participated in 5 Minute Friday this week. It was fun and I actually went over on time, but I am chatty so that is easy for me. I loved reading most of the responses to this post. So many Mon’s from all over. I am a Christian, Grandmother of 5, and blogger from California, USA. I watch two of my grands on Fridays and the other three often. I haven’t read much of your blog but I plan to check it out more as the days go by especially after all the praise here. What a blessing to have so many love you as they do.
Hey there! I’m actually one of your quiet lurkers. I live in Loganville, GA and love, love popping over to this sweet little community every day to see what goodies and inspiration you have waiting for us! I truly adore the pictures you post of your gorgeous family & your stories of trials, tribulations & joys makes me smile cause it reminds me of my life with my wonderful husband & two small girls (8 & 6). Thanks so much for all you do & your beautiful words!! :)
I often end up here (often as in every time you post), and am always so grateful to find encouragement, honesty and beauty. Thank you for failthfully posting and sharing.
How wonderful! I have so enjoyed the blog the Lord gave me for the past 11 months. It has been an awesome experience. Now finding friends in the blog ‘world’ has been great. I don’t have many followers but that is NOT why I do my blog, it is Jesus. The other day a blog friend sent me “5 Minute Friday”. And now a different blog friend sent me this “Official De-Lurked” message….what fun. Thank you dear ones. God bless you as you trust HIm to lead you to new and exciting places in your walk with Him. I thank you Lord Jesus for such friends as these. :)
I guess I’m a bit of a lurker..hehehe, sorry! ;)
hello!
I first found you with Five Minute Friday, but I don’t remember how… :-)
I visit from way down in south Texas, where my family and I serve as missionaries at the US/Mexico border. I have 5 kids at home, between almost 13 and 18, and a married daughter with 2 grands.
I’m inspired by your honesty and so enjoy your writing. Thank you!
and blessings!
I don’t comment nearly as often as I should — i.e. as often as your posts touch me — but I just wanted to say, thank you for writing, for letting the Lord write through you to us, for not only the beauty of your words but also the honesty of your heart.
Hi! I live in Oklahoma, and have been enjoying your blog for 6 months or so. I love your honesty and genuineness. It makes me feel like it’s ok to be unsure of where I am, or where I’m headed. I just know that I love Jesus, and that you do too. And we’re going to be ok because He is good. Oh by the way, I am a chaplain at a cancer hospital, and when I read your blog God ministers to me. So, thank you, thank you, thank you! Keep up the great writing and pics.
Hi – my name is Lindsay. I live in Minnesota with my hubs and four kids ages 6, 5, 2 and 9 months. I am a stay-at-home mom who works very PT evenings and have my own business as well. I anticipate all your posts as they are a HUGE encouragement to me and I also feel like you WRITE exactly how I THINK. I only wish I were as eloquent as you are – you have a special gift and I am thankful you share it with us. Thank you – for your honesty – for nothing sugar-coated – and for the truth, hard as it is to hear sometimes.
Hello! I am from Ontario, Canada. I’ve been following your blog for about a year or so. I was first hooked when you posted about expecting your daughter, as I was expecting my daughter (my first) at the same time. So many of your posts have resonated with me, brought tears to my eyes as they affirmed what I’m feeling, made me feel like I’m not alone in my experiences of this new journey of motherhood (like your oh so accurate descriptions of middle of the night nursing sessions). Since our daughters are right around the same age, so often you put just what I am feeling into beautiful words. Thank you!
Hey Gypsy Mama….I am not for sure…but the little I have been looking at :De-Lurking Day” it is really :De-Lurking Week”….So are we up for a week of “De-Lerking” for a week or not?????
Unlurking/ delurking was a goal of mine this year, so here goes. Your posts are always a bright spot in my reader. 9 times out of 10 I have tears in my eyes. Don’t know how you know my heart so well….thank you.
Sometimes we just need a gentle push. So, thanks. :) I am officially de-lurked. You have created a wonderful network here and your blogs have inspired me regularly. Thank you for being faithful. God bless!
De-lurking — I enjoy your posts and your happy with life smile.
I also join Five Minute Fridays — learned a lot about me and my writing from these. Thanks.
I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and am officially sticking my head through the door instead of lurking outside.
you put a smile on my face!
I confess to being a lurker, but a very interested and encouraged one. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for 39 years; we’ve raised 2 godly sons who have blessed us with 8 grandchildren. I love reading your words of inspiration. As thefisherlady said so well, ” You put a smile on my face” and sometimes a tear in my eye, but I so enjoy reading about your adventures with our wonderful Lord. God bless you and your loved ones here and around the world.
Hi Lisa-Jo! Even though I write a blog, I don’t read very many. I guess I don’t have the time to spend. But I usually check in here once or twice a month–I found you in the early hours of the morning one day about a year ago, and being also a mother, a lover of Jesus, and a gypsy :) –I was hooked. Thank you so much for your insights and your encouragement to women to be who they are in the Lord and to love one another.
Hi Lisa-Jo,
How could I resist such an invitation to comment! I have read your words for much of the last year and enjoy joining your five-minute-Fridays. Your candid writing and some southern hemisphere perspective make for great reading. Checking in from ‘downunder’ in New Zealand.
I just discovered your blog this past week and very much appreciated what I read there. I’m the Ex-wife of an Ex-Pastor. I have 2 grown children. I have 2 grandchildren by my daughter. My son is a USNA graduate (2005) and is a Marine Capt. currently deployed to Afghanistan. My ‘circle of life’ has become very small and I’ve looked to the Internet more and more recently. I’ve been finding blessings – your site among them. Thank You!
Hello Mary-Jo,
I enjoy reading your blog and am often in tears as I relate or brought to see that I am not alone in my struggles and fears. Thank you for your encouragement.
Sarah
Hi. I’ve been lurking for just a few weeks :)
I’m British, married to a Dane and have just moved from Belgium to Luxembourg. I’m in that first-few-weeks-and-I-know-nobody phase of being in a new place, so spending more time finding encouragement online and found myself here. I love your writing!
Hey there! Long-time lurker, recent commenter :) Love your blog and your perspective and your inspiration! Thanks for sharing all that you do.
also a lurker but happy to post and tell you how much I enjoy your blog!! Thanks for encouraging and inspiring so many of us! many blessings xx
I think I have become a lurker again… I used to not be a lurker on your blog. I have commented in the past and think that I even won a CD and cookbook on here sometime ago. I have been reading your blog for a couple of years now. I am an transplanted American, via a decade plus long stint in Australia, but now planted in the highlands on Scotland. I relate SO much to all things globetrotting which you often share. I love the way that you share your heart Lisa-Jo. Your writing is a constant encouragement to me. I think if we ever met up that we would be good pals. You seem so down to earth, honest about your life, your love of Jesus and wanting to be the best that you can be in HIM. Bless you heaps.
Hi! I love your blog. As an American living in South African, I enjoy reading about a South African in America. Yet, our lives aren’t too different. Keep up the good work!
I guess you could call me a lurker! I started following you just before Relevant11. Since then I enjoyed hearing what you had to say at the conference and here on your blog. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, I’m a sporadic commenter… A mother of one daughter and three sons, living in New Zealand where it is (supposedly) summer right now! Your posts make me feel connected – that there are others out there who know how I feel. I love the ones on mothering (I so relate, lol!) and am also separated from my family, so that rings bells for me as well!
Not really “lurking”, but not a frequent commenter either! I’m mom to three most-wonderful boys (quickly becomming men!), and love your blog! Thanks for sharing your thoughts in this space…and thanks for the invite to un-lurk, and introduce!
~Peace,
LuAnne
Hi Lisa-Jo,
this whole lurking business is so strange! I know exactly who you are and what your innermost feelings are towards motherhood and many other things, and here I am, lurking, and you don’t even know my name. Well, I’m going to give this un-lurking thing a try, even though it is discouraging to be number 196 on your de-lurking list (Will she even read this, the little evil doubt-guy in the back of my mind whispers, and it is he who is trying to keep me a lurker – but enough. Go away, Mr., we don’t want you anymore!). Sorry about being a day late, I hope it still counts :-). It must be totally strange for you, too, to have so many people know you and not know so many of them.
Well, here goes: I am half-German-half-American mother of two, with a little bit of Hungarian gypsy (ha!) thrown in the mix, living in Germany with my two beautiful girls, aged 2 years and 5 months. I married a wonderful German man who is half African (even though his passport doesn’t reflect it), because he was born and raised in a little village in Tanzania. Our family is strewn all over this beautiful planet, my parents currently move back and forth between Germany and California every couple weeks, my parents-in-law are still in TZ, my brother-in-law and his family live in Perth, Australia, so we’ve got a lot of continents covered…
The first post of yours that got my attention was the one about being a reluctant renter, and it was really encouraging to me, because so am I. My husband and I have always said that we won’t be staying in Germany forever and we are open to God’s calling to wherever he might want to have us. So we rent. To stay flexible. Our friends here however are all in the house-buying/building stages, really putting down roots, planning to live in this or that house until they are old and grey. This is not our way of living and seeing our future, and that’s sometimes hard, to be different. Besides that, I feel being a mother is my calling and the greatest (and hardest) thing I have ever attempted to do. My friends here around me don’t have this all-consuming mom-gene, they are more than happy to go to work again as soon as possible and have the kids “on the side”. I’m not saying that my way of being a mom is right and their’s is wrong, but again, it’s hard to be different and have no one understand.
I have the feeling that you would “get me”, anyway I feel a lot of myself reflected in your writing, and I just love your deeply honest, trustful, sometimes sad but always hope-filled writing and I have cried many a tear of sadness, joy or sympathy over these posts of yours. It’s amazing to have someone else find words for something in your own heart, especially if she doesn’t know you at all. But maybe we can change that :-). I also love love love your beautiful pictures, especially the ones of your children. Thank you so much that you are so very much NOT a lurker, that you expose yourself and by doing that are such a blessing and encouragement to me and my life as mother, wife, friend and believer.
Loved every single bit of your story. Especially LOVED hearing from the other side of the screen – thank you thank you Sandra for introducing yourself – you are lovely!
…and thank YOU so much for answering me directly and helping me defeating that lurk-imposing self-doubt! Have a blessed day!
I have just joined your community – this is the first post that has entered my email box! I look forward to reading more of your posts
I discovered your blog when a friend linked to the post “For the days when you want to quit motherhood” on her Facebook page. I was once a young mother living far away from my family in an era that preceded the existence of Facebook or blogs. How wonderful to be able to communicate with readers regardless of distance. Your writing offers the grace and encouragement we need as we try to follow Jesus while juggling the responsibilities of home and family. Thank you for doing what you do. We appreciate you in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Hi! I’m a regular reader, but I don’t think I’ve ever commented. I appreciate your joy and your perspective!
Hi Lisa-Jo, not so much a lurker as an occasional commenter. I love your honesty and vulnerability and humor. And as a fellow ex-pat, I love your take on life abroad. And Five Minute Friday is brilliant:)
I read, write, run and raise three kids from our home in Switzerland. I don’t like Nutella, although we go through ginormous jars of it frequently (don’t hold it against me), I love to travel, I don’t speak German, and I have a love/hate relationship with my washing machine. And it took me about five minutes to write this, so speed isn’t my forte, as my snowboarding skills will attest to:)
I enjoy reading and sharing your articles…I am a new mom and the things you say are encouraging and uplifting. Thanks for making me think :)
Hi there. It’s Holly here – stay-at-home mom of 2 boys- 6yrs & 1yr. Just trying to stay warm in very chilly Alberta, Canada – it’s minus 24 degress Celsius (-11 F) right now. Your blog provides inspiration and warmth for my soul- thank you!
Hello! I am Kelsey, a 22 year old fresh college grad going into medicine next year. I am originally from Ohio but am currently in PA. I love reading your posts, and am so encouraged by your words. Occasionally, I attempt a 5 minute friday, but hardly ever post it on my blog. I especially love when you post about your daughter! I also found Hilary’s blog from your site and enjoy that one as well. Thanks for writing!
Hi,
I’m MaryBeth. Former preschool teacher. Stay at home mom to 2 boys age 1 1/2 and 3. I’ve done 5 minute Friday quite a few times, but the old fashioned way with a pen and a notebook. My goal this year is to actually participate. Thank you for all that you do and say here. Your words are a blessing.
Hi, I have commented occasionally here. I love what you write and how you put into words the same thongs that I am feeling with raising little ones. You write it so much better than I ever could. My favorite posts are the ones about your little girl. She is just a little bit older than my Chloe who just turned 8 months. So when you write about your love for Your little one it’s like you are writing about my love for Chloe.
Keep up the beautiful work.
Margaret

I’ve been your follower forever but I just had to pop in and add my two cents. I’m Elizabeth, a 54 year old pastor’s wife, mom to three daughter’s, and nana to 3 girls and one boy. I love to teach, mentor, writing, photography, homemaking, cooking, and of course blogging!
welp. i’m late to the party but i’m going to join anyway. i’m a newer reader…since Relevant. i attended two of the writing sessions and the social media session. and, well. what you shared there? ministered to my heart in ways that are beyond typing in this tiny box. i knew who you were but i didn’t. thank you for taking up the banner of others over self and investing instead of promoting. that’s why i come here. because you use your gift as God has called: to encourage.
and i’m typing in this box by lamplight on a cold morning in south carolina.
Groete van Kaap Stad, Suid Afrika!!
I have been reading your blog (and lurking) for a while now and its just like having a cup of tea together – you write so naturally. Thank you for your very real insights on life, love and everything else! I work with my husband and a lot of other men in an electrical business and its a great interrruption in my day to have another woman’s perspective on life through your blog :)
Baie, baie dankie!!
Sharon
Hey there,
I’ve commented a few times before, so I guess I’m not strictly a lurker… :-) But I am a fellow Saffa, who lives in the Jozi of crystal clear mornings and dramatic afternoon thunderstorms. I huddle behind high walls and wonder at the craziness of how we lock ourselves away in this magnificent country of smiling faces, generous hearts and concern for our fellow humans, in spite of the way that so many treat their fellow humans.
I’m not a Christian in the churchgoing grace-saying bedtime praying sense, but your words of faith are so inspirational. And when you talk of your feelings about being a parent, it’s like you’re taking mine and crafting words so much better than I ever could – and I get paid to be a wordsmith.
So thank you thank you thank you for creating a network of love – because that’s what this blog really does, you know?
I’ve been lurking for a few months. I’ve from South Carolina and thoroughly reading your posts. Your posts are soothing to my soul and often reflect how I feel as a new mother. My daughter is 8 months old and the way you describe your love for your children sings the song of my heart. Thank you, from the depth of my heart, for sharing. It is refreshing and real and poetic and soothing….all at the same time.
Hi! My name is Kristin and I have been following your blog for the past 5 months or so via a post that Christie Purifoy wrote via, her sister, Kelli Campbell who I am friends with from high school and college. I enjoy your words, your encouragement, and the thoughts you share. My favorites are your 5 minute Fridays. One day, I will start doing those to stretch my writing legs. I have a little blog of my own—I started it when I was pregnant with my daughter and it has emerged as a vehicle that is not all about her, but snapshots as to what is going on in my life, as well as my family’s lives as well. I work in the corporate world, am raising a very headstrong little girl, and married to an awesome man who puts up with the both of us.
Have a great day!
My name is Jess. I’ve been following your blog for a couple of months and I LOVE 5 minute Fridays! They ensure that I blog at least once a week and help my writer’s block exponentially. I am a single woman in my late twenties, who loves to discover, grow, and heal. I love this blog and I feel like my newfound blogger friends know me in a way that some of my “real” friends don’t. It’s amazing how many times I’ve published a post thinking, “I hope people can relate” and then I read through the blogs I subscribe too and there will be multiple posts on the same topic but from different view points. I think it’s a God thing.
I subscribe by email. Therefore I rarely visit your actual blog. :/ I did however, visit to listen to your audio birthday post.
Thanks for taking the time to write! You’ve blessed me on more than one occasion. :)
I’m officially de-lurking!!!!
Holey moley, girl! 220 comments??? And YOU’RE having doubts about whether or not anyone reads what you write? On a very good day, I might get 15 comments. That’s a GOOD day. So imagine the size of my doubting gremlins. You do wonderful work here, Lisa-Jo – and I am not a lurker, so I didn’t post in this list on the day you wrote it. But your post today made me wish that I had – so here I am…again. Thank you, thank you for all that you do and say to encourage people from behind the screen. LOVE it all and especially enjoy FMF – you have helped me to write more succinctly and heaven knows, I need that.
Hi! I’m Katharine and I’m late to this party, which is par for the course… I often read, less often comment, but I love to linger here when I can. You have a lovely way of “pulling me in for tea” if that makes sense. I always enjoy the visit. Although this may not be true at all, I read your posts with a South African accent in my head… our dear friends were from Joburg, and I miss that lovely accent!
Blessings on your day!
I’m Mel, I’m a native Oregonian and married to my high school sweetheart for 16 years come March 1st. We have four kids; 3 boys and 1 girl, in that order. I published my first book last year and am writing my first novel. I love reading your blog because our families are similar and I don’t live all that near to family. You always inspire and encourage. :)
Blessings,
Mel

I confess to being a lurker. But I have officially unlurked, and hope to continue to chat from time to time. Thank you so much for your blog. It is definitely not ‘a chasing after the wind’. You write rich and deep and honest and I love it. You have encouraged me much in the past and I know you will continue to do so. Apologies for just lurking in the past and not letting you know how much your writing is a source of encouragement and inspiration. We are originally from Zimbabwe and have been living in Australia for four years. We are incredibly grateful for second chances and our new home, but we do find, like you, that our hearts are pulled back to our roots and family there often. Thank you again for sharing your life with us. x
I am a relatively new reader and I believe this is the first time I’ve commented! My family is from Oklahoma, but I grew up as an MK in Colombia, married a Venezuelan, have driver’s licenses from Arkansas and are serving as missionaries in Mexico. I love the way you write, about your perspective on life and cross-cultural experiences…I relate to so much of what you write about and even how you describe yourself; seems like we have a lot in common. Sometimes I’m tempted to just link to your posts on my blog, you seem to say so eloquently what I would wish to have written! LOL Keep up the good work!
I’ve been following your blog for a couple years and just love the way your words draw me into emotions and identification with you as a mom. Only I am old enough to be your mother (62) and yet I LOVED the journey of motherhood, despite the moments of feeling totally inadequate and scared spitless of the responsibility to build into the lives of my two sons. But once a mom, always a mom, and so being reminded of those days brings sweet reflection, a deep awareness that they grow up in spite of us, and that God can be trusted in it all when we give our children to Him. And I am stimulated in remembering that all moms everywhere need full and constant doses of “atta girls” and a reassuring hug…cyber or in person! God bless you. Toni
Dear LisaJo,
I am subscribed to your blog. I love what you say, and how transparent you are with your struggles. I love your down to earth and practical way you write down your thought. God bless you and your family
Hi Lisa-Jo
I’ve been reading your blog for about 6 months, you are such a dose of warmth, humor and honesty to me :) I live in Sedgefield, South Africa (between George and Knysna) but lived in the States for 11 years ( 5 states – 3 kids, each born in a different state…), been back here for the last 5 yrs and possibly going back again.. so yes I have quite a lot in common with you! Moved 21 times so far since being married.. Thanks for your blog, I enjoy every post, and if I’m ever in the same city as you I would love to have a cuppa with you too xxx
Hi! I found your blog last week through clicking some links here and there from YLCF :) I participated in ‘five minute friday’ and loved it :)
I am from Belgium, 22, married and mother of a 6 month old. Love reading a little something on here when he’s napping.
Thanks x
Hi, I have your site bookmarked and pop in every now and then to read. You have a lovely way with words, I love your emotion-charged word pictures, I often end up with a lump in my throat from your accurate and honest portrayal of motherhood.
I am an Aussie, living in the tropics, but originally from down south in Victoria. I have 4 children whom I love and who drive me insane. My best friend is my husband, who has been my rock for over 15 years.
Thanks for the invitation to un-lurk! I generally do just lurk on most blogs I read, but it’s nice to know you really wanna know your readers.
Found you in the last week – my friend send an email with a link to your post about your trip away from the kids to remind me and her other mom friends that it is ok to take some time away from your kids. Enjoying your blog!
Hey! I recently started doing 5 minute Fridays with you. A few things I love about your blog….
amazing pictures
great writing
a passion for travel
connection with others
and so many more
Thanks for being great. I love connecting with you and other writers every week! Thanks for letting all of us “get to know you.” :)
Thanks for the encouragement on parenting young ones, living on a different continent than your family, having expectations that don’t always get met (household cleanliness, patience, etc.), and growing in faith. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading. :)
My best friend introduced me to your beautiful writing through a post you had written. Your writing touches mothers in their hearts, souls, and minds like no other. You provide inspiration for me to write and to continually read your blog. I think you have an amazing gift that needs to be shared with the world.
I am carefully navigating the world of motherhood and need all the assistance and insight that I can get-thanks for helping to do that in your savory word choice and thoughtful loving way.
Hi! I absolutely love your blog. God has used your words to breathe life, hope, and encouragement to me. Your ministry to women is a calling, thank you for listening to God’s voice and taking the time to hare your heart when there are a million other things you could be doing. I am a mother to a three year old daughter, a one year old son, and # 3 due in August! I also work part time as a Behavior Specialist working with families that have children with autism. I will try to lurk less and comment more, even if it’s only a thank you. May God continue to bless you and your beautiful family.
Hi, I’m a sporatic lurker from middle TN. I’ll try to stop by more often. :)
Hi,
I’ve been following you for awhile. You have a way with words that connects with my own experiences with motherhood. I’m a transplant from Canada to the USA. I get the homesick stuff although it is so much easier being 500 miles from Canada. My husband is going to Malawi next week for ten days on a mission trip. Glad he’s going, not sure how I will survive parenting 4 kids (15 months to 10 hrs) on my own. Thanks for the encouragement on your blog.
I love your blog but I never comment. You have a lovely writer’s voice and I always appreciate the things you say and how you say them. I feel like I know your little family and rejoice with you in your ups and pray for you in your downs. Thanks for giving me something thoughtful and God centered to mull over several times a week.

Howdy! I’m Alexandra Anne =) First time reading your blog specifically, but a friend of mine has been doing your Five Minute Fridays. Love!!!!!
God Bless,
<3
ps. I'm an aspiring opera student, who is falling more and more in love with Jesus every day and has decided to journal my life via blog!
I have been lurking for a while. I think I found your site through the Nester (I lurk there too). I commented once when you were worrying about raising your daughter well. I have not had children, in part, because of that worry. I didn’t want my child to feel about me like I did about my parents. I stop by your blog because I like the way you write and I like the way you try to be intentional … you prepare your mind for action … you don’t just plan to react as things happen. I admire that. I admire your honesty.
I commented today because I love cake … even if it’s just a comment cake. Eat it up!!!
Hi Lisa Jo. I am a little late to the game, thought I’d comment anyway. I am an accountant and this time of year is a little crazy. I feel like I’m running to catch up. I haven’t blogged in a while!
I do subscribe to your posts and love your words, and your pictures. Your daughter reminds me of mine when they were little – now they are 13 and 17 and if I see/talk to them in a day it is more unusual than usual. I am finding a common ground in going out to eat – we have big discussions then.
I am from SC and have been here all my 49 years, the opposite of you!
Please keep posting pics so I can remember “the good ole days”.
See you again soon.
Love your insights, transparency, and lovely way with words! Thank you!
Isn’t it funny how a “formal invitation” will stir me to finally say something? Yes, I am typically the “quiet type” ~ hanging back, waiting ~ while simply enjoying the conversation around me.
Hi. I’m Denise, and I’m relatively new here. I just started participating in FMF late in December. And I enjoy your writing very much. I suppose I would be the opposite of a gypsy mama, for I have only traveled overseas exactly once in my entire life. In fact, I have lived in California every year of my life, save one. I have never even seen the Atlantic Ocean. So the thought of travelling to Pennsylvania for the Relevant Conference really takes me out of my “comfort zone,” but I am seriously thinking about going for it this year. Anyway, thanks for the “invite.” I enjoy your blog.
Hi Lisa-Jo. I love your blog and especially your Five Minute Fridays. I look forward to them and usually don’t get to read them until very, very late on Fridays, but they are so refreshing and such a blessing to take part in and read. Just a big thanks for being real and sharing yourself with others; you are a writer who reminds me to keep my eyes open for what God is doing every day and to keep seeing the adventure life can bring:).
well, i’m a little late, but here i am anyway! read here oh so often, comment hardly ever (although today, twice in one day!!) :) as a pastor’s wife and mama of 2 under 2, i LOVE coming here and feeling not only inspired, but understood. most of all, i feel like i come out of hiding in your words- out of the fishbowl, and i just belong. thank you for that.
Hi there Gypsy mama, I know I’m late but your blog is really perfect that I have to let out what I got in my mind about it.
I’m Asma from Riyadh, KSA. Found your blog in a wonderful way. I use Disqus plug in for comments, there I found Sara’s blog (gitzengirl.blogspot.com) she wrote about 5 minutes Friday and then I got into your blog. And I have to say that it’s really inspiring. It’s been a year since then. I really love all you stuff and specially your kids, they are so adorable.
To tell the truth, your place encourages me a lot. It’s my number one favorite and I find it a very wonderful community for women. They helped me a lot and I learnt many things from you all.
Thank you for all you give us and for this wonderful blog.
