Today we all took a true day of rest. We didn’t get up early, we didn’t shower, we didn’t get out of our jammies, we didn’t rush everyone out the door to make it in time for church, we didn’t dress, pack up a diaper bag, make everyone’s required milk and juice bottles, pack the snacks and blankies and rush out between house and car and church only to return exhausted.
Instead, we slept in, played all day in our PJs, devastated the house by emptying out all the toy boxes and playing with EVERYTHING. I’ve done no dishes, but I did have a nap. Pete got some work done on his syllabus and we all got to spend quality time together. We feel so, well, rested. The day has been every part of the blessing I think it was originally intended to be. We have worshiped, and told Bible stories, we have loved each other and napped and expressed our gratitude to the Father who instituted this remarkable day.
It’s not an every Sunday experience – but it sure was the right fit for today!
Wishing you all rest in preparation for the week that lies ahead!
Matthew 11:28 (The Message translation of the Bible)
28-30“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Beautiful! We had a quiet weekend, too, because we definitely needed it.
