Unattended two-and-a-half year olds will climb couches in the church foyer when your back is turned and grab onto the fire alarm for leverage. The alarm will ring a long, loud time. The Pastor you were shaking hands with minutes before will flee to get the “off” key. The key will not turn up, the entire congregation will. Everyone except you will laugh.
Consider yourselves warned.
This story has been cracking me up!
oh my! I don’t think I could stay mad at him for too long… he’s just so cute!
this made me smile-
thanks for the warning, dear friend!
and, he’s so cute, how can you not want to kiss him!
and, better church than the mall, right?!? :)
We mommy bloggers are so lucky–we have an endless source of material! :) He’s a cutie!
Better that than him telling your pastor that you and your hubs like to “wrestle nekkid!” (actually happened to a friend the FIRST TIME SHE MET THE PASTOR)
I’ll take the fire alarm anyday….
Oh. My. Word!
Oh my goodness, is he ever kissably, snuggably adorable all in caution tape! Perhaps this was a new evangelism tactic to draw attention to the church? Some use steeple bells… others use fire alarms. :)
Ha! Nice try!
He is just too cute to be angry at. Sorry i’m laughing xxx
I know – even the Pastor commented on his “adorability” factor. Lucky little stinker~!
oh m ygosh when I read this this weekend after you tweeted it I laughed outloud! I am so sorry… but he is just so stinkin cute!!
So far my boys haven’t done that. . . but my brother did (at about the same age). Only, it was a freestanding fire alarm in the neighborhood. He wanted “to see the light on the lighthouse”. . . Firetrucks and all came. Neighbors and fire chief were not happy. My mom. . . sooooo embarrassed!
Ha! Funny thing is, my little brother did the same thing. The morning of our graduation, in my dorm. Everyone was evacuated and a lot of the girls had been taking showers. It was way less adorable than if he had been two!!
oh dear! But one day you will all laugh…and laugh and laugh! What a great story!
Of course he did.
:D
I know, right? When asked, they both looked at me like “Duh, mom!”
Caution tape – perfect! I think I need some of that for my guys! Everyone is right – you can’t be made at that cute face for long!
Two and a half year olds playing next to a telephone will also dial 911 and then hang up, causing 911 operator to call back and ask if everything is OK. I said yes, but was thinking, “Call back in a few minutes – everything might NOT be OK by then!”
Bwahahahahaha!
Better to happen while they’re young and cute! My mom tells a story about when she accidentally set of the alarm in a mall when she was 12 or 13….it took her almost 20 years to tell her parents that she was the one that set it off!
Rut row!!
(I’m with the congregation on this one, though. That’s wicked funny, my friend. And I love that you’ve memorialized it here!)
“Wicked funny” ~ clearly you haven’t left Maine yet :)
Hilarious. Glad you blogged this.
I am here to please :)
I just loved this! It reminds me so much of my middle one…the one who wears two different shoes on purpose…neither of which are usually on the right feet. Yeah…give her time and she’ll do something just like this. :)
I have been there.
Except we were at Hobby Lobby.
But just as humiliating.
And no one was smiling because they didn’t know us.
And I was nursing an infant at the time.
It was bad.
I used it for blog fodder as well.
It’s what we do – right?
Oh man, that is way way worse than mine! But today our call stalled out in the middle of a KFC drive through. In 100 weather. With two cars behind us. Does that compete?
I think it does.
Hey, if people are silly enough to put a leverage-providing device right next to a couch, I’d say they assumed the risk that it would be used. ;)
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! :)
My son pulled the fire alarm at school. It was in the evening and we were there for an informational meeting. He was 2 or 3, I think. The principle was talking about an all-day kindergarten class and was saying that teachers needed more time with the kids because things just come up that interrupt their teaching time. Then she used the fire alarm as a case in point! It was SOOO embarrassing!
I am laughing so hard my nose is running!!! He is so very cute! I would not be able to stay mad at him for long!
Some things are funnier in retrospect!!
Yaaaah Micah!!!!!
Oh, friend, how I relate to this story…
Oops!! At least it will make for a good family story!
This is hilarious! And the pictures are perfect. Have fun with all your adventures! :)
I can honestly say that hasn’t happened to us… yet!
Too funny :-)
i love the non-stop adventures of your life as a mom, my friend! (and i can’t help but laugh over the fire alarm shenanigans — sorry!)
